Ryu? by TixieLix Ryu? by TixieLix
Funny enough, as much as I love Street Fighter it's the main character that I actually find hardest to draw.  I think it's coz he's so focused on his fighting and there isn't much that's quirky about him (not that I find anyway) hence why I've been putting off drawing him ever since I started doing SF fan art 2 yrs ago O.o  Or maybe the appeal of SF is that we can find characters we relate to most and project part of our own personalities into them, making them easier to interpret than others?  My favourite is Vega - what does that say about me? loooooool

I started with a quick sketch of the face yesterday and basically put it to my friends asking "does this look 'like' Ryu?"  They were kind enough to give me pointers, which I've tried to follow as best as I can.  It definitely looks A LOT different now.  Still not the most dynamic pose possible in my books, but one problem at a time... definitely a character I shall revisit ;D

Mechanical and graphic pencils on paper.  1 hour approx.

Its because you lines and mind directed to being feminine. Thats why you capture characters that have the soft feel. Seeing your work and practices with Vega youve pretty much mastered it. Forcing your self outside of the box makes you break habits. I challenge myself all the time...and im in a constant struggle to try different things. Try practice drawing the HULK or someone less feminine....... Honestly my favorite artist can match both feminine (Beauty and Strength) yoji-shinkawa google image his work

Ryu - muscles on face cheek a stronger cheek bones...idk look at references. shorter hair but more..

I understand what you're saying and I have to agree that drawing pretty things comes more naturally to me and that's why things otherwise are harder and more challenging.  I'll try to draw different characters time to time for practice - the closest I've come to drawing the Hulk would probably be Blanka hehe

"Still not the most dynamic pose possible in my book" well, maybe it's because you don't find anything much "uirky" about him?  I dunno, but shit, I like this.

haha yeah I just wasn't "feeling it" when I drew this because of that reason, but I'm glad you still like it so thanks ^^

I forgot the "q" on "quirky." :'(

Eh, I don't blame you.  Kind of hard to "feeling it" to draw Ryu when you draw characters with some pretty interesting (and perhaps whacko) personalities... Vega *cough*
