Sketching away from home by TixieLix Sketching away from home by TixieLix
Work has tired me out so much (been working 2 weeks straight including weekends @ 10 - 12hrs per day), I don't have energy left to be creative after so I referenced a photo. Good for practice anyway.

Ballpoint pen on my notebook - couple of hrs over 3 nights

Well I managed to make a quick sketch Jaguar by AceOfKeys72  It came out alright but i think I'll need to put in more practice to make it more realistic

More practice will make perfection.  It took me years to get the skills I have now and I'm still learning. I would suggest practicing with normal pencils first to learn tonal values, capturing textures etc before progressing onto colours. Don't just use a colour because someone else has - understand the basics first.  All the best with your art!

Clearly you haven't the several hundreds of pencil sketches in my gallery. But yes texture is something I'm still trying to grasp at. I wouldn't say I played w color out of imitation. I just really wanted to brighten my gallery wo having to resort to digital medium. of course I do have color pencils that has been gathering dust so perhaps that should work as a compromise. Learning form, shape and creating a sense of depth hasn't been to difficult since starting but texture continues to elude me. However I'm hoping with continuous practice I should eventually discover what it means

I admit I haven't had the time to look at your gallery but if that's what you're doing already then keep it up.  Well to use your recent piece for example in terms of textures - I noticed you shaded in the fur like one single surface which makes it look kind of flat and textureless. Try visualising your references with different surfaces joining seamlessly together and in general, break up the subject into parts to piece together. That would give a better sense of shape, depth, texture etc overall

ah yes. i won't lie I was on a time crunch and while I wouldn't say I was trying to half ass it I can't say it was the best i could do since I'm trying to do a daily submission. Breaking up a subject into different parts. I never thought of that before. Usually I try to draw it as a whole but maybe I'll give it a shot ;)

I understand if you are pressed for time and I think it's a good exercise to practice daily, but maybe instead of rushing, trying doing a bit of one piece a little each time instead of trying to finish it all at once.  You'll find you'll learn more that way and get more out of it, plus a lot of artists wouldn't attempt to finish a complete piece in a limited amount of time themselves but spread it out and speed comes as your skills develop - as they say, you can't rush art :)

So beautiful! Your pen seems to have drawn real fur, it's so nice! Everything's clean, smooth and polished. This could be displayed at a zoo as a description art!
May you ever increase in skill! =D

That is wonderful! The fur and the reflection in the eye look really realistic - which is not easy (especially with a ball point pen). I love it.

I hatedrawing with ballpoint pens, because I never manage to control the pressure precisely enough. I really admire this painting!

The very fact that you note that you drew this free hand with a ballpoint pen over the course of three nights, speaks volumes to me of just how truly talented you are.

IMO anyone who can draw like this with a blue ballpoint pen deserves respect and acknowledgement of their awesome skill.

Amazing.
