Needed to take a break from digital art (eyes sore from staring at computer during work.) Good opportunity to get back to traditional drawing and since I'm in a Zelda mood, I thought I'd stay on the subject but draw some characters I haven't before
I like semi realism, so going with that and using references I modified a normal wolf's coat pattern and length to look like a possible realistic version of Link's wolf form. I also changed the eye shape - they're bigger and rounder than the reference ones so he looks kinder and more reminiscent of Link's big, clear eyes (my intention here, was for him to look like he's just having to put up with Midna bossing him around like
) Imp Midna was also fun to do and getting her Fused Shadow head piece right was challenging.
Even with the trend towards digital art these days, I still think it's important to learn traditional drawing skills first and keep that up along side the digital ones. Kinda like back in school, we had to earn our pen license before we could use a pen... they're the most basic of drawing skills and it pays to master it first before hitting the tablet imo.
Drawn from scratch with ballpoint pen only, and no tracing (you can still see some faint sketch lines around Midna's head.) Spread over 2 nights at around an hour each. Photoshopped only to crop photo and brighten.
